Violence and Non-Violent Communication Discussed

The second in a series of meetings under the title ‘Hello Neighbours – Women Shape Diversity’ (Hallo Nachbarn – Frauen gestalten Vielfalt) focused on the topic ‘Non-Violent Communication and Building Bridges with Empathy’.

The event, organised as part of the project run by the BAT-Cemevi in cooperation with Kaleidoskop Projekttraining (KOPA) and the Türkischer Bund in Berlin-Brandenburg (TBB) and supported by the Berlin Senate’s department for ‘Participation, Integration, Equality and Anti-Discrimination’, took place at the Cemevi (Alevi house of worship) the day before yesterday. The well-attended event opened with a welcome address by Mukaddes Dede Aslan, Chair of the BAT Women’s Council. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. İnan Özdemir Taştan, an expert in communication and public relations, entitled ‘Non-Violent Communication and Building Bridges with Empathy’. After Taştan had outlined key aspects of the subject, participants shared their views and their own experiences. Male participants who spoke about their experiences made self-critical remarks, stressing in particular that men need to confront this issue.

Following the discussion and exchange, participants continued their conversations over a meal, which brought the gathering to a close.
