In the elections to the Berlin House of Representatives held on 20 September 2026, members of the Alevi Community of Berlin – Cemevi Elif Eralp (Die Linke), Sevim Aydın (SPD) and Taylan Kurt (Greens) were re-elected as Members of the Berlin House of Representatives.
We warmly congratulate all three of our members and wish them every success in their work.
One of the significant outcomes of these elections for our community is that members from different political parties have been elected to the Berlin House of Representatives. The fact that Sevim Aydın (SPD), Taylan Kurt (Greens) and Elif Eralp (Die Linke) will serve in parliament is also important for the visibility and representation of people with a migration background in democratic decision-making.
These elections have once again demonstrated the importance of democratic participation, political representation and social diversity in Berlin. That our representatives from different political parties are taking on roles in Berlin’s decision-making bodies is an important development for the participation of the Alevi Community of Berlin in political life.
We also thank those of our members who stood as candidates but did not receive enough votes to enter parliament for their political engagement, the responsibility they took on and their contribution to the democratic process.
The outcome of an election gains its meaning not only through those elected, but through everyone who takes part in the democratic process, takes on the responsibility of standing as a candidate and contributes to the public life of society. Being visible in politics, taking responsibility and campaigning for our shared values is valuable regardless of the election result.
We wish Eralp, Aydın and Kurt every success in their work for equal citizenship, democratic participation and strong social representation in Berlin.
With love …
BAT-Cemevi Executive Board
