Meeting with People with Special Needs and Their Families

At an event organised by the Alevi Community of Berlin – Cemevi (Alevi house of worship) together with the group “Yol Engel Tanımaz” (“The Path Knows No Barriers”), as part of the project “Hallo Nachbarn – Gestalten Vielfalt” run jointly with the TBB and Kaleidoskop, people with disabilities and their families spent an unforgettable day together.

The event opened with Ali Varlı’s short film “Yol Engel Tanımaz”. It continued with a saz performance by Musa Gönül Dede, after which children and adults designed cloth bags together, showing off their creativity.

During a nature activity, participants discovered and observed flowers and insects together, followed by movement, play and rhythm activities with a play parachute and balls. In a shared cooking workshop, participants prepared food together, which was then enjoyed by everyone at the tables laid out. Mukaddes Dede Aslan, Chair of the BAT-Cemevi Women’s Council, said: “One of the main aims of the event was to strengthen inclusion, solidarity and encounters between generations. The active participation of people with disabilities in every stage of the activities was an important experience in terms of living together and equal participation. Feedback from participants was very positive overall. Offering a variety of activities together made the day both enjoyable and a gathering that strengthened social bonds.”

Yusuf Karacan, spokesperson for the Yol Engel Tanımaz working group, said: “For some time now, we have been running joint activities at the Cemevi for people with disabilities and their families. New people join us every day. Our activities are open to everyone, and we welcome anyone who would like to take part.” Ece Karanlık, as an educator, and Necla Yoloğlu, as a special needs educator, supported the participants with their professional experience.

BAT-Cemevi Executive Board member Haydar Narin and BAT-Cemevi Executive Board member Şermin Sertkaya thanked everyone who had contributed to the event.
